Parking

How to park a rental car and general advice on parking.

The renter is responsible for parking the car legally during a rental period. For Keyless rentals, the renter is also responsible for ensuring that a car is parked legally after a rental, as the car owner is not obliged to check that the car is parked legally after a Keyless rental. For non-Keyless rentals the renter is only responsible for parking the car legally until the rental contract is signed between the renter and the owner. Hence, the owner must ensure that the car is parked legally at the parking space where the parties agree the car must be handed back to the owner.

General advice on parking

To avoid parking fines whenever possible, here are some general tips on parking.

Always read the car owner’s parking and return instructions

Always familiarize yourself with where the car is allowed to be parked, the car's parking permit, and any other essential information about return and parking in the car owner's instructions. You can find the car owner's instructions under the rental agreement on the rental once you have an approved rental agreement. For Keyless rentals, if the car owner does not provide return instructions, the car should generally be returned to an unrestricted parking space in the same parking zone and within 500 meters of where you picked it up. If in doubt, contact the car owner.

Always check the parking rules in the area where you park

Parking rules for a zone/road are usually indicated by signs at the zone/road entrance. Always read the rules before parking and ensure that the car can be parked without restrictions and legally in the zone/on the road after the rental period ends. Never leave a car in spaces with no parking signs, even if the prohibition applies only at certain times or on certain days.

Never park less than 10 meters from an intersection

In general, you must never park less than 10 meters from an intersection. Make sure the car is not parked too close to an intersection. This rule also applies to T-intersections.

Never park in a private or reserved parking space

Unless the rental car has a private/reserved parking space associated with it, the car must always be parked in a public parking space. If the car has a private/reserved parking space, it will typically be stated in the car owner's return instructions. In that case, you can use the car's private/reserved space.

Always set the car’s parking disc

Always remember to set the parking disc to the time you are returning the car. If the car has an automatic parking disc, you should always check that it is functioning correctly and set correctly before leaving the car.
